Brief: Create a light-filled, high-impact kitchen space with bespoke interior detailing

PROJECT GOALS

  • Open up and modernise the existing kitchen layout
  • Improve natural light and flow between kitchen and dining areas
  • Deliver a high-end, luxurious finish with bespoke detailing
  • Integrate a standout feature mantle as the focal point

CHALLENGES

  • Confined and disconnected kitchen and dining spaces
  • Lack of natural light and sense of openness
  • Outdated design with limited architectural interest

SOLUTIONS PROVIDED

Interior Design by Smithson & Littlewood:

  • Proposed a complete spatial reconfiguration: the kitchen and dining areas were flipped, allowing the kitchen to take full advantage of available light and layout potential
  • Opening between the two spaces was widened to enhance flow and sightlines, creating a more connected, open-plan feel

Project Management & Bespoke Interiors by Smithson & Littlewood:

  • Designed and installed a dramatic feature mantle, finished in Pompeian Ash, creating a strong visual anchor and adding architectural elegance
  • A mirror was placed above the mantle to amplify natural light, deepen the space visually, and add atmosphere

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

Colour Palette:

  • Pompeian Ash used on the mantle for depth and drama
  • Dropped Cloth throughout the cabinetry and walls for a warm, timeless softness

Statement Feature:

  • Custom mantle design, handcrafted and colour-matched
  • Integrated lighting and mirrored element for added luxury

Layout Transformation:

  • Kitchen relocated to former dining area, optimising space use and light
  • Dining moved closer to the garden aspect, creating a more serene setting

RESULTS

  • Significantly improved natural light and flow
  • Created a high-end, bespoke kitchen-dining space with real architectural character
  • Added aesthetic and material value to the property
